Feedback
Feedback is a prototype for a series of video sculptures using a controlled video feedback loop to explore a
wide range of textures, abstractions, and images. Based heavily on my time restructuring software and
integrated into Rice's practice as a video sculptor, Feedback re-imagines this simple process
to generate new forms.
Process
Video feedback occurs when a camera is turned upon its own image. Under normal conditions the loop created stabilizes
within a few moments to a static image. In Feedback, the loop is mediated and slowed using pixel-level time delays to allow
control over the rate of feedback, thus never reaching a stable point.
Images are introduced into the loop through the physical presence of a small display attached to an armature autonomously raising
in front of the camera. When the display lowers, the images are digested through the
feedback process and slowly abstract from their original form.
